Super Nintendo non oem reproduction Incantation video game cartridge.

Incantation is a late-era side-scrolling platformer video game released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1996. Developed and published by the infamous French studio Titus France, it is a fantasy-themed action game featuring a young wizard protagonist.

Game Overview & Plot

According to the game's official premise, the peaceful Magic Kingdom is thrown into chaos when an evil entity named Necroman kidnaps the guardian of the Book of Sorcery and steals the book itself. Players control a short, robed young wizard apprentice tasked with traversing dangerous lands, rescuing the guardian, and reclaiming the book.

Gameplay Mechanics

  • Magic-Based Combat: Instead of typical physical attacks, your main weapon is a magic wand that fires projectile spells.
  • Spell Upgrades: Throughout the levels, players can collect different magical power-ups that alter the firing pattern, range, and damage of the spells (such as homing beams, bombs, and unique projectile shapes).
  • Item Collection Gates: The game utilizes a mandatory collection mechanic. To complete most stages, the player must explore the map to find and collect three golden feathers.
  • Toll Gatekeepers: At the end of a stage, a large orc or gatekeeper blocks the path. You must hand over the gathered feathers as a "toll" to bypass them and progress to the level's boss battle.
  • Visuals and Audio
  • Graphics: Being a late 1996 release, the game features colorful, well-drawn 16-bit sprites, clean background layers, and transparency effects (such as rippling water in swamp levels).
  • Music: The sound design is often criticized by retro gamers as repetitive, relying heavily on a looping bassline rather than epic or atmospheric fantasy tracks.
